Forrest North, founder of Mission Motors, has long cherished an ambitious goal of creating a motorcycle that would set a new standard in the field of electric vehicles. In 2007, he started his work on converting Ducati motorbike powered by petrol into an electric model.
The engineer wanted to take an advantage of the performance of petrol but with zero exhaust pipe emissions. The amazing result of North's work is a bike powered by lithium-ion batteries. This type of batteries powers laptops and mobile phones. The bike is designed to run for 150 miles until it has to be recharged, which requires two hours.
The creation of the Mission One bike has been inspired by the creation of Tesla Motors' Roadster, the luxury electric sports car entirely produced in California. The project was funded by clean technology investors, including Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Mission Motors already demonstrated a hand-built prototype but the bike is soon to be tested on the road at 150mph.
The first 50 limited-edition Mission One bikes are expected to be available for 68,995 dollars. The less expensive version of the bike is to be unveiled this summer.
The Mission One will join this summer's TTXGP, a motorbike race organized on the Isle of Man, famous as the world's first clean emissions grand prix.
The Mission One bike is surely a great gift for all luxury lovers, bikers and electric vehicle fans.
