British author JK Rowling has presented all Harry Potter fans with a really exciting Christmas gift - a new book, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, the most highly anticipated title of the year. The book was officially launched at the National Library of Scotland on December 4. A group of Edinburgh school children were invited to attend a tea party hosted by the author.
The bookshops in Scotland opened their doors at midnight to welcome Harry Potter fans eager to buy a copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
The book contains 128 pages. It is famous among Harry Potter fans as the volume left by Hogwart's headmaster Albus Dumbledore to Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final Potter book.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard consists of five stories: The Tale of the Three Brothers, The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Warlock's Hairy Heart, The Wizard and the Hopping Pot and Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump. The stories helped Harry Potter to destroy Voldemort.
Net proceeds from the sale of The Tales of Beedle the Bard will be donated to The Children's High Level Group (CHLG), the charity co-founded by the author in 2005. The charity acts to support the rights of vulnerable children in Eastern Europe.
As JK Rowling says, she hopes the book will become a fine Christmas gift to all Harry Potter enthusiasts, along with offering the necessary support to The Children's Voice campaign.
Actually, the book was not meant for mass-market release in the first place. In 2007, JK Rowling handwrote and personally illustrated six copies to be presented as unique gifts for those people who were most closely related to the Harry Potter books over the last 17 years. A seventh copy of the book was given to the charity, and acquired by Amazon for 3.98 million dollars at Sotheby's auction held in London.
The Tales of Beedle the Bard is also published by Amazon as 100,000 collector's editions, to be available along with replica gemstones, new illustrations and metal skull, corners and clasp. The price of the book is 100 dollars, a part of which is also donated to support the CHLG.
It is remarkable that the final Harry Potter book, published in July 2007, became the fastest-selling book ever. The seven Harry Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies worldwide.
